The coronavirus public health emergency is rattling global markets and causing broad uncertainty. As it unfolds, our first priority is to keep our families safe and healthy. The coming weeks are also going to have a big impact on our community's most vulnerable including seniors, low income children and families as well as the nonprofit organizations that support them.
Even as social distancing is the safest choice, we have an opportunity to come together at this moment and — when this passes — emerge stronger and more connected than ever. We can help organizations with important supplies, food and impacted populations supporting:
Loaves and Fishes of Contra Costa is open and serving food. Although they have closed their dining rooms for sit-down meals in response to the COVID-19 crisis, Loaves and Fishes is continuing to "Nourish Lives" in the Contra Costa Community through "to-go" meals and pre-filled bags with food pantry items.
SupplyBank operates like a food bank, but for supplies. Based in Oakland, they manufacture, procure and receive large quantities of basic needs material items and send them to 450 other local agencies that distribute them to their clients in locations throughout California. This is how they are supporting under resourced children and families during this unprecedented time.
Meals on Wheels of Contra Costa serves seniors so much more than just a meal and in these uncertain times will be an important lifeline for this vulnerable population. In addition to funds, Meals on Wheels suggests reaching out to at-risk seniors and loved ones to give them support and social interaction.
Please join us in opening our hearts to everyone struggling in our community and showing how much #CompassCares.
